Skybound Blue is harmony-driven, dig-deep-and-tell-the-story-in-your-bones Americana. Fronted by married duo Matt and Jenny Behnke, Skybound Blue is magic on stage - entertaining, funny, and down to earth. Their songwriting and musicianship hold their own in the vein of Americana greats like Shovels and Rope, Brandi Carlile, and Patty Griffin.
Whether playing an intimate theater or summer festival, they engage audiences with sincerity and charisma. Matt's guitar playing is becoming legendary and their stunning harmonies and melodies seem familiar and welcome the minute you hear them. Skybound Blue’s music has been hand selected for Portland’s KINK Homegrown Music compilation and national ad campaigns for Woolrich Outdoor Clothing Company and Sunday Afternoon Hat Company. They’ve also been recognized as writers to watch by the Nashville Songwriter’s Association. Most importantly, Skybound Blue has created a devoted following of fans who crave a heartfelt performance filled with good laughs, inspiring moments, and unbridled foot stomping.
The couple met in Jazz choir at Spokane Falls Community College, fell instantly in love, then promptly quit school in search of adventure. They spent three summers on Guam, where Matt landed a gig diving for silver bullion on a 17th Century Spanish Galleon. Then, in 2000, they sold everything and sailed the Bahamas for a year: snorkeling, playing music, and making life-long friends.
A year later their lives changed forever when Jenny was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Cancer remains the hardest thing the couple has ever endured. Out of this experience came a sense of urgency to write and play music no matter what; life or death, they are here to share their story with their whole heart.
